Wasilla resident Ronald Lee “RT” Terranove, 68, died March 12, 2012, losing an eight-month battle with cancer.
A celebration of RT’s life and memorial potluck is at 2 p.m., March 17 at North Bowl Bowling Alley, 3250 Palmer-Wasilla Hwy., Wasilla.
Ron, or “RT” as he was known in the Valley, was born Sept. 5, 1943, in Maywood, Calif. He moved to Wasilla in July 1988 to get away from the fast pace of Southern California and enjoy the great outdoors of Alaska. While living in Southern California he held various jobs, mostly as a truck driver both local and cross-country.
RT enjoyed golf, golf and more golf, along with bowling with all his friends. He especially enjoyed his yearly three- to four-week trips to his brother’s home in Southern California to play golf and visit relatives before the May 1 opening of Alaska golf courses. RT worked as a marshall and starter at the Settlers Bay and the Palmer golf courses. He loved the friendships he made in the Valley. Playing golf, bowling and fishing with his friends was his top priority. Although his family lives in Southern California, it was in the Mat-Su Valley he chose to have his ashes spread in his beloved Alaska and near his extended family.
“RT will always be remembered for his huge smile and his willingness to help anyone at any time; no task too large. He will be missed,” wrote his family.
RT is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Don and Donna Terranove; their children, Steffenie, Michelle and Don; and five great-nieces and two great-nephews, all in Orange County, Calif.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Ronald Terrenove’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 3851 Piper St. No. U240, Anchorage, AK 99508.
