Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Rosie Josephine Selk, 92, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Sept. 12, 2013, at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage.
Father Andrew Lee will officiate at a funeral service in memory of Rosie at 2 p.m., Sept. 19 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1201 E. Bogard Road in Wasilla. Rosie’s burial will follow at Wasilla Aurora Cemetery.
Rosie was born July 6, 1921, in Kwiguk to Ernest and Olga Peck.
Rosie was a lifelong Alaskan raised in Wasilla, living in areas such as Birchwood/Chugiak, Anchorage, and eventually settling back in Wasilla. Rosie was a member of the Homemakers Association in Chugiak, Anchorage and Wasilla. She enjoyed fishing, canning, sewing and bingo.
Rosie was very compassionate, taking-in and raising many foster children over the years.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Lyle; parents, Ernie and Olga Peck; and brother, Ernie Peck Jr.
Surviving are her daughter, Carol Jones of Wasilla; daughter, Kathleen Russell of Fort Collins, Colo.; son, Kenneth Selk of Wasilla; foster daughter, Rosie Choquette of Anchorage; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements cared for by Valley Funeral Home and Crematory.
