Roslyn Marie Bumpus, a beloved mother, sister, and nurse, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 21, 2024, at her cherished home, lovingly cared for by her daughter, Sarah. Born on September 18, 1942, in Bedford, Virginia, to Sherman and Eva Pierce, Roslyn was sister to Alexander (Alex) H. Pierce, Sr., and is survived by her siblings Joyce Nuttall, Brenda Pierce (sister-in-law), Gloria Johnson, and Brian Pierce.

Roslyn's early years were filled with the joys of Virginia's farmland, where she developed a deep love for horses and nature. She attended Jefferson High School, where she excelled academically and athletically, and was honored to portray the mother Madonna in the school play "Why the Chimes Rang."

Her passion for helping others led her to Stuart Circle Nursing School in Richmond, Virginia, where she formed lifelong friendships and began a fulfilling career in nursing. It was during this time she met Charles H. Bumpus, whom she married on August 20, 1966, at Langley Air Force Base. Their life together took them to Anchorage, Alaska, where they welcomed their daughter, Sarah.

Roslyn's career as a nurse spanned over 40 years, during which she worked in various healthcare settings in Virginia and Alaska, including the Alaska Psychiatric Institute and Valley Hospital. Her compassion and dedication were evident in her work, particularly with children and teens from challenging backgrounds.

Roslyn's life was marked by resilience and love, especially following the untimely death of her husband, Charles, in 1986. She continued to be a beacon of hope and kindness to all who knew her, including the many "adopted" children she nurtured.

Roslyn is survived by her daughter, Sarah Bumpus, Chris Bumpus (brother-in-law) and Kathryn Bumpus (sister-in-law), her aforementioned siblings, and a large extended family. She will be deeply missed by all who were touched by her warmth and generosity. A memorial ceremony and celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
