Ruth Parillas Brownlee

Ruth Parillas Brownlee

Ruth Parillas Brownlee, 97, of Palmer, passed away March 13 at Providence Extended Care Center in Anchorage.

A memorial service will be held today at 3 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Palmer where she attended faithfully. Pastor Jonathan Rockey will officiate. Her cremated remains will be placed next to her husband, Alex, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver at a later date.

Ruth was born August 5, 1911 in Wheatridge, Colo., to Stoddard S. and Nellie (Sherman) Potter. She resided in Denver from 1911 until August, 2001 when due a hip injury, she moved to Palmer in August, 2001 where her daughter could provide care for her. She came to Palmer with a positive attitude and came to know what her home was all about. She attended Adult Day Services at the Palmer Senior Center five days a week. She loved to ride in the vans waiting to be picked up first and dropped off last. She would get upset if they were closed (she wanted to be there). She loved to play bingo every Friday and she loved to socialize and talk to other people about their lives and past.

Ruth will be missed by her family and dear friends in Alaska and Colorado.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley and her husband, Frank Bird of Palmer; one granddaughter, Catherine (Cathy) Roush and her friend, Dale; her great-grandddaughter, Kristina and her fiancé, Tony; and her great-great-granddaughter, Hannah.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Alex; one son, Lloyd, grandson, Chris, two brothers, Paul and Bert, and one sister, Florence.
