July 19, 1933 - January 17, 2025

Sally G Hitchcock, age 91, was born Sarah Lucille Greek in Jamaica, New York, but grew up in Michigan. She graduated in 1955 from the University of Michigan with a history degree and a teaching certificate and was a teacher in Michigan before moving to Alaska in 1957. She had fallen in love with Alaska as a young girl and pursued her dream of living there when she took a job as a teacher in Anchorage for the school year 1957/1958. She was married on June 23, 1958. She started Hitchcock Music Studio in 1971in Palmer and retired in 2020, after teaching piano students for 49 years. She was a very good piano teacher, and many have benefited from her tutelage.

Involved with politics, she was proud to be a life-long Democrat. Her inquiring mind drove her to read endlessly and collect an impressive library of books, and she seemed particularly fond of her collection of books about Alaska. She was a patron of the arts, and the walls of her house are covered in art by Alaskan artists. She took her daughters to many, many live theater performances, operas, ballets, and symphonies, stoking their love of the arts. She was an avid gardener and had a lovely garden every year. She was involved in researching the genealogy of her family, was proud of her Scots Irish heritage, and thoroughly enjoyed her visits to Scotland, one in 1956 and two more later in life. She fell in love with the Isle of Skye. She was involved in the Palmer community and was active in various groups such as: Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), Valley Music Teachers Association (VMTA), ACLU, Palmer Library Board, Alaska Keyboard Teachers Association (AKTA), and Mat-Su Democrats. In 2024, she and Carolyn Covington were honored as the two remaining founding mothers of the Alaska Women's Resource Center, now known as Alaska Family Services. A truly unique and beloved fixture of the valley has passed away and it won't be the same without her. She is, and will be, missed greatly.

She is survived by Jim Hitchcock, Beatrice Hitchcock, their daughter Elizabeth Coffee-Westover Fitzpatrick, three daughters Christina "Tina" Limebrook, Elisa Hitchcock, and Katherine "Katy" Burrill, 5 grandchildren Mauri Hitchcock, Keye Burrill, William Limebrook, John "Jack" Limebrook, Emily Limebrook, and one great granddaughter Laila Mahoney. There will be a celebration of life ceremony for her this summer with more details to follow.
