Sammy Davis (Sonny), born 8/28/39 in Sasakawa, Oklahoma passed away peacefully at home in Wasilla, Alaska on 11/25/21. Sonny was 82 years old. He was born to Wesley Legus Davis and Joanna (Carpitcher) Davis. He was full blood Seminole Indian and a proud member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma and the Anchorage Pow Wow Association.
Sonny served in the US Navy from 1956-1960, stationed in Cambodia, during the conflict at the beginning of the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged and moved to Alaska for work. He made Alaska his home and lived there most of his adult life, although he did live in Hawaii for about 10 years. He was a retired journeyman sheet-rocker and a former shop steward in the Carpenters Union#1281.
Sonny loved hunting and fishing in the Cantwell area with his beloved family. Family was the most important part of Sonny’s life, and he loved his family dearly.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 30 years, Shirley Rider Davis. He is also survived by his Children Jesse (Heidi) Davis, Nelson Davis, Joanna (Will) Chesley, Billie (Lance) Holland as well as his Stepchildren Carol (Joel) Schwantes and Ryan (Sandy) Belden. He is also survived by his sisters Anna Mae Morton, Sharon Davis, Lana Davis & brother Jimmy Davis as well as many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his son, Sammy Davis Jr.
Sonny left a big impact on the lives of many people; he was the head of his family and he will be missed dearly.
Sonny’s celebration of life will be held 12/04/21 @ 2:00 PM at the American Legion (5050 Tweed Ct) in Wasilla Alaska
