Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Sandra Judith (Wesenberg) Proetz, 60, died Feb. 15, 2008 at Providence Extended Care Center in Anchorage following a lifelong battle with diabetes.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at St. John Lutheran Church, 440 E. Elmwood in Palmer, with the Rev. Jonathan Rockey officiating. Private interment was at Palmer Pioneer Cemetery.
Proetz was born June 21, 1947, in St. Paul, Minn. She was a licensed practical nurse, and worked at Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul from 1969 to 1973. She came to Alaska in 1975, and was a volunteer at Providence Hospital in Anchorage. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Palmer.
Her family said, “Sandy will be greatly missed as a lovely wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and church member.”
She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law Helen Proetz of Hastings, Minn., and stepfather, the Rev. Albert Eberhart. Survivors are her husband, Clifford Proetz of Wasilla; son Nathan Proetz of Anchorage; mother Ruth Eberhart of West St. Paul; step-sister Lois Eberhart of Minneapolis; step-brother Paul Eberhart of Minneapolis; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Merrie Ann and Glenn Sell of Hastings; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Edward and Maxine Proetz of Duluth; and step-sister Carol Hagemeyer of Largo, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Arrangements are with Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel of Wasilla.
