Sara Johnston

On Dec. 1, 2015, in a sudden and tragic vehicle accident, a very special person was taken too soon from those who knew and loved her. Sara Rebecca Johnston, born June 3, 1990, in Palmer, Alaska, was only 25 years old. Family and friends have been left with a deep sadness and feeling of loss for a beautiful woman known for her smile and overwhelming laugh.

While Sara was always up for a fun adventure with friends, the greatest times in her life were those spent with her son, Nathaniel. Her face would light up at the mention of his name. She was very proud of her boy and had a love for him that filled her heart from the moment he was born. She loved to have her picture taken with Nathaniel. Those pictures will now help him to remember her throughout his life.

Sara was raised by her father, Tim Johnston, in Palmer. In November 2008, Tim passed away and left Sara with a sadness in her life she never recovered from. There is comfort to family and friends in knowing that they are now together. Both believers in an afterlife in Heaven, Sara is now smiling and laughing with her dad. Tim now has his “Sara Bear” with him. Also joining her to play with forever is her dog, Patches, who was killed in the accident.

Sara’s sister, Emily, said of Sara, “Sara was such a loving person; she had the most contagious laugh and an unforgettable personality. Sara could make anyone laugh and she always had the biggest smile on her face. Sara was the best sister I could have asked for and a very special person to have in my life. She will be truly missed.”

Sara was proceeded in death by her father, Tim Lee Johnston; grandparents, Glenda Johnston, Cecile Campbell and Roland Campbell; and great-grandmother, Mary Choate.

Sara is survived by her son, Nathaniel Gabriel Widener, of Wasilla; her mother, Darlene Campbell, of Kaplan, Louisiana; sisters, Ashley Marie Johnston, and her husband, Billy Willis, of Abbeville, Louisiana, Emily Johnston, of Palmer, Alaska, Kristi Campbell, of Abbeville, Louisiana, Dennie Campbell and husband, Daniel Dubois, of Youngsville, Louisiana; brother, Michael Campbell and his wife, Misti of New Iberia, Louisiana; and many friends who will love and miss her.

As Sara would have wanted, a celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015. The celebration will be a potluck dinner and will be held at the Palmer Elks Lodge off Bogard Road, from 1-3 p.m. Family and friends are encouraged to bring a favorite story of their time with Sara, to share at the celebration if they wish.
