Lifetime Wasilla, Alaska resident Shad Eric McCune, age 47, departed this life on January 24th, 2024 at Mat-Su Regional Hospital in Palmer, Alaska from complications of undetected carcinoma surrounded in the embrace of loved ones. Born on September 28th, 1976, in Anchorage, Alaska, he was the beloved son of Helen Faye (Addington) and Clifford Woren McCune.
Though Shad never married nor had children of his own, he swiftly became a cherished brother to all he befriended and an adored uncle to their children. Known for his corky sense of humor that never failed to uplift spirits or taking advantage of having two birthdays due to a clerical error in the filing of his birth certificate, Shad was always willing the extend a helping hand, even if it meant literally giving the shirt off his back and let’s not forget his eagerness to volunteer the services of anyone else he thought could assist. He will forever be remembered as a protector, emanating warmth, kindness, and unwavering commitment to spreading love. His indomitable spirit and stubborn resilience were defining traits, accompanied by a contagious smile and comforting hug that never failed to bring joy to all those around him.
He is survived by his mother, Helen McCune; sister, Shannon Goolsby; nieces, Destiny Muth and Cecelia Lucas; nephew Garrett Monson; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as his life-long friends/adopted family Matt Leonard and the Walling family.
May the memory of Shad continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved him. A bonfire wake in his honor will be held Saturday, February 17th, at 6 PM, graciously hosted by the Walling family on their property.
