Shane Houser passed away on August 15, 2021 at the age of 62 at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska.
Shane was born May 27, 1959 in Fort Campbell, KY to Bobbie Houser and Colleen Brayman-Houser. After traveling the world with the army, their family settled in Alaska in January of 1967. Shane worked in maintenance for the Anchorage School District since 1989 and would have retired from his position as lead carpenter there this month. He earned many rewards, certifications, and acknowledgements for his dedication to ASD over the years. His carpentry projects can be found in every school in the district.
Shane purchased property in Palmer’s Butte community in 1984 with his wife of 39 years, Lynn where they raised their children, Sara and Mitchel. He was known for his big heart, hard work, and easy smile. He adopted people around him as family and he fixed dozens of cars, changed hundreds of tires, and spent countless hours doing what he could, with what he had, for anyone that needed it. He loved adventure and most of his free time was spent hunting, fishing, snowmachining, and 4 wheeling in the Alaskan wilderness with his friends and family.
Shane was preceded in death by his father, Bobbie; his son, Mitchel; and his brother, Tony. He is survived by his mother, Colleen; wife, Lynn; daughter and son-in-law Sara and Kenneth Paison and their children Makensie, Kenny Jay, and Shane Lee; his sister Delinda; brothers Bobbie and Earl; and dozens of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other loved ones including John and Lydia Wood and their four children who called him Papa.
A celebration of life will be held at the Palmer American Legion at 1550 S Mystic Circle (off Outer Springer Loop, just before the fairgrounds) on Sunday, August 29th from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. In lieu of sending flowers, in honor of his heart for children in need, please consider making a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or children’s charity of your choice.
