Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Longtime Alaskan resident Shawn Marie Bashaw, 55, passed at home in Wasilla on Nov. 20, 2014.
Celebration of life is at noon, Nov. 29 at the Valley Funeral Home, 151 East Herning Ave., Wasilla.
Shawn was born on July 21, 1959, in Frankfurt, Germany. Shawn graduated from high school in Anchorage, and has been a resident of Alaska for more 30 years. She lived in Anchorage, Ketchikan, and Wasilla. She worked for Pen Air as a Ticket Agent and then started working for NANA WorleyParsons as an Engineering Aid.
While at home, Shawn enjoyed working outside in her flower garden. She loved planting vegetables with her husband Mark and also doing home improvement projects, for which she frequently received compliments. She loved to keep the lawn manicured and you could always tell when driving by. Walking the dogs rain or shine was also a daily routine. Shawn loved the outdoors and life in general.
She was survived by her husband, Mark Bashaw of Wasilla; sons, Darren Kessler of Wasilla and David Kessler of Denver, Colorado; mother, Joan McGowan of Denver, Colorado; sisters, Sheree Skinner of Denver, Colorado, Robin McGowan of Boston, Massachusetts; brother, David (Karen) Sanchez of Denver, Colorado; sister, Susan Hunt of Denver, Colorado; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dogs, Ruby and Harry.
