Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Our beloved Shelia Jo (Redington) Aamodt, 65, passed away in her sleep on Sept. 28, 2013, from complications of cancer.
Shelia was born Aug. 2, 1948, in Winfield, Ala., to Catherine L. and Joseph E. Redington.
At 6 weeks old, Shelia moved permanently to Alaska, flying to Anchorage with her mother Cathy and her brother Raymie to join the rest of the family at their newly homesteaded land in Knik.
As a child, Shelia attended school in Wasilla. Later on, she attended Anchorage Beauty School, where she met her best friend, Kathy Corey. In her 20s, Shelia was employed at the Municipal Light and Power in the clerical division. She also commercial fished with her brother Raymie in the Northern District of Cook Inlet at his fishing site. She also worked at the Carriage House, which was a senior citizen rest home.
In 1967, Shelia married Gerald Aamodt and had two sons with him, which they raised in Anchorage.
Shelia was preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Lucille; step-father, Thomas Brodhead; father, Joe Redington Sr.; step-mother, Violet Redington; and brother Keith Redington.
Shelia is survived by her sons, Gerald Aamodt Jr. and James Aamodt, both of Anchorage; brothers, Raymie (Barbara) Redington of Knik, Joee (Pamela) Redington of Manley Hot Springs and Tim Redington of Kenny Lake; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews throughout Alaska and the Lower 48.
Shelia loved life, her sons Jerry and James, her family and her friends, and she will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Cremation arrangements were with Witzleben Legacy and a celebration of life is at 1 p.m., Oct. 12 at the Evergreen Memorial on 8th and E in Anchorage.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Providence Hospice.
