Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Shelly Edwards, 53, passed away May 22, 2016, at her Anchorage residence. Shelly was born in Glennallen on October 28, 1962. She had a unique childhood as one of the few children to be raised in McCarthy in the 60’s and 70’s. She and her brother had many adventures growing up off the grid and exploring the ghost towns of McCarthy and Kennecott.
Shelly received a BA from Oberlin College and Master’s degree from UAA in planning. She spent time working for the Kenai Borough Planning Department as well as having her own consulting business.
Shelly enjoyed hiking, camping and rafting. She loved the Alaska outdoors. She was a voracious reader and could often be found with her nose in a book. She loved flowers and her precious cat Panda.
She loved traveling and spent some time in Egypt, Turkey, Russia, Mexico and Costa Rico.
Private family services will be held at the family cemetery later this summer.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Jim and Maxine Edwards.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Lana Edwards, of Wasilla; her nephews, Ben and Jake Edwards; and her step-mother, Audrey Edwards, of Anchorage.
