Shirley Ann Close, 73, of Glacier View, Alaska, passed away on April 11, 2016, while in hospice care in Vancouver, Washington. Shirley was born in Wadsworth, Ohio on September, 20, 1942 to Myron and Mildred McGuire of Chippewa Lake, Ohio. She graduated from Westfield High School in 1960 and continued on to train as a Radiology Technician at Barberton Hospital in Ohio. Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Rex James Close, on August 3, 1963. Together they relocated to Anchorage, Alaska and lived there for 30 years while raising two children. Later on they built a log home overlooking the Matanuska Glacier. Shirley worked as a Radiology Technician for over 30 years. The highlight of which was a stint on Johnson Island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. She enjoyed quilting, berry picking and bargain hunting at garage sales. She was a devoted wife, amazing mother, and a loving grandmother. Shirley is survived by her husband of 52 years, Rex; son, Shawn Close; daughter, Tanya Fujimoto; granddaughter, Savanna Close; brothers, Jim, Terry and Rick McGuire, and numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley is preceded in death by her mother, father and several close aunts and uncles. A memorial service will be held on October 1, 2016 at Glacier View Bible Church at 4 p.m. Pastor Brian Wilbert will be officiating. In lieu of floral memorial donations, the family is asking that you make a donation to your local hospice care facility and that you remember to hug your little ones.
