Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Shirleymae Hollen, 83, passed away Nov. 6, 2016 at home after a battle with cancer.
Shirleymae was born February 17, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating high school at 17, she was married to Thomas Jones in San Diego, California and raised 3 children while catering weddings and parties. After moving to Wyoming, she purchased and ran her own café/hotel for almost 20 years and served on the local school board. At 46, Shirleymae became a widow and in 1985 she married Troy Hollen.
Having visited family in Alaska throughout the years and fallen in love with the state, they chose to retire here in 1999. As a member of the LDS church, Shirleymae held many service positions and was always helping others. Large dinners were a frequent tradition in her home and she was known for always making everyone feel like family.
She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Tommy; stepson, Tim; and grandson, Tyler.
She is survived by her husband, Troy; daughter, Lynette Barrett; son, Loren Jones; and too many other blood relatives and “adopted” family members to list.
Her memorial service will be held Nov. 12, 2016 at 4 p.m. at the LDS Colony Chapel, 9475 East Sliver Spring Cir Palmer AK.
