Sid “Sonny” Chandler III

Sid “Sonny” Chandler III, 64, a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend, unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at his home in Wasilla, Alaska.

Sid was born to Sid Chandler Jr. and Audrey (Meyers) Rock on February 23, 1957 in Charleston, West Virginia.

As a young boy, Sid was an Eagle Scout. Around the same time, he discovered his love for wrestling. His wrestling career started in Elementary School at the YMCA. He continued wrestling through his high school years at Waynesboro High School where he was on the JV squad as a freshman and Varsity as a sophomore, junior, and senior year. His senior year, 1975, he went to states and advanced to the quarterfinals. Sid went on to wrestle at West Chester State College to complete his wrestling career.

Sid joined the armed forces in 1978. He was in the Air Force branch until 1985. He received many medals, awards, and ribbons during his time in service. This is where he learned to become an electrician.

During his time in the Air Force, Sid met Charlotte L. Chandler, whom he would then marry. They had two children together, Cheyenne and Nathan. When their children were small, Sid moved the family to Alaska.

Sid worked most of his life as a skilled electrician while enjoying his time in Alaska with his family and friends. In recent years, while he was in partial retirement, his full-time job was grandpa. When he wasn’t working or with his family, Sid was an avid treasure hunter. He loved a good mystery or puzzle to challenge his brain.

We will miss his charming, gentle, kind, and loving spirit. He made us laugh and kept our hearts full with his poetic words. He loved his family with his whole heart. He will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.

Sid is survived by his two children, Cheyenne Chandler (Joseph Sullivan), Nathan Chandler (Jennifer Chandler); his grandchildren, Noah, Teagan, Ruby, and Rocco; and his siblings, Judith Snyder, Lawrence Chandler, Gerald Chandler, Stanley Nunn, and Donna Hollenbaugh.

Preceded in death by his parents, Sid Chandler Jr. and Audrey (Meyers) Rock; his wife, Charlotte L. Chandler; and siblings, Allen Chandler, Bruce Chandler, and Infant Theresa Chandler
