Palmer resident Sonya Fay Frantzich, 64, died Sept. 2, 2010, at home surrounded by her family following a long battle with cancer.

Sonya was born April 14, 1946 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. In 1986, she moved to Alaska, calling Palmer her home. She was the co-owner of Mat-Valley Timber. Her hobbies included crocheting and reading her country magazine.
Her family wrote, “She was the most loving and compassionate person. She always had a smile to share and a hug to give out, but was never afraid to speak her mind and kept the family and grandkids in line. She loved being outdoors in the logging camps of Montana with her husband and kids, and later running a sawmill here at their family business. She gave 100 percent to everything she did. We will miss her dearly, but the Lord has taken her to a better place.”
Sonya is survived by her husband, Russell Frantzich of Palmer; daughter, Stacie Queripel of Wasilla; son, Carl Frantzich of Palmer; daughter, Karla Deemer of Palmer; daughter, Marti Czubachowski of Palmer; son, Russ Frantzich Jr. of Palmer; son, Todd Blair of Watertown, S.D.; daughter, Laura Blair of Temple, Texas; son, Jay Blair of Deer Lodge, Mont.; daughter, Brenda Were of Buxton, N.D.; son, Curtis Blair of South Carolina; sister, Vicki Zander of Palmer; mother, Fay Boe of Helena, Mont.; brother, Gary Semenza of Helena; brother, Mark Semenza of Helena; sister, Suzie Dice of Spicer, Minn.; sister, Tracy Selph of Crest View, Calif.; sister, Edie McGee of Newport, Wash.; as well as many spouses of family members and lots and lots of grandkids.
