PHS hosting Lancer Smith Memorial

Palmer High School is hosting the eighth annual Lancer Smith Memorial wrestling tournament Oct. 22-23 at Palmer High School.

The Lancer Smith, which starts at 9:30 a.m. each day, is one of the largest prep wrestling tournaments in the state with more than 350 wrestlers from 20 teams participating. Palmer is also hosting a 10-team dual competition on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m.

for basketball coach

Houston High School seeks a head coach to lead its girls basketball program. Those interested are asked to submit a letter of application, current resume and at least two letters of reference to the Houston High School activities office. Club sponsors adult volleyball league

The Northern Lights Volleyball Club is sponsoring an adult volleyball league.

This division of NLVC caters to adults 18 and over who want to play a fast game of organized volleyball and improve their individual skills. This is a great way to get exercise and stay in shape during the winter months.

NLVC hosts the adult league Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Palmer Junior Middle School, and the league will continue throughout the school year.

Players must complete a registration form and pay a $50 league fee before participating.

Registration forms are available at the club website, northernlightsvolleyball.net.

Fees cover all open games and the occational in-house tournament. Due to insurance and safety concerns, children are not allowed to attend this division of play. To register or for more information, call Diane at 745-2447.

Colony searching

for Nordic ski coach

Colony High School is in search of a boys’ cross country skiing head coach for the 2010-11 season. Those interested are asked to submit a letter of application, current resume and two letters of reference to Colony assistant principal Brendon McMahon (brendon.mcmahon@matsuk12.us).

Basketball classic scheduled

The second annual Denali Orthopedic Surgery Tipoff Classic basketball tournament is scheduled for Nov. 12-13 at the AT&T Sports Center. For more information on the boys’ and girls’ tourney, visit attsportscenter.com/flyers/denali-basketball-tournament-2010.pdf.
