Stanley L. Woodin, 96, passed away peacefully on Sept. 12, 2013, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer.
Masonic Service with Military Honors in memory of Stanley will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11 at the Palmer Moose Lodge, 1136 S. Cobb St.
Stanley was born May 25, 1917, in Northport, Wash., to Ray and Rose Woodin.
Stanley served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. After being discharged, he lived in California and Nevada, but eventually moved north to Alaska.
He lived in numerous areas of Alaska during his career working as an electrician in the construction industry, including the North Slope Pipeline. It was his trade that brought him to Alaska, but it was his love for the beauty that the land and its people offered. He could never image living anywhere else.
He eventually retired from electrical construction in December 1984. He was actively involved in several organizations, including: Mt. Susitna Lodge No. 8, Matanuska Lodge No.7 (Worship Master 1993), Charter member of Mat-Su Valley Commandery, Knights Templar, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and Senior Adviser DeMolay.
The family wrote: “Dad was a wonderful man with a kind and generous spirit. Always with a book in hand, he had a lifelong love of learning. He loved music and was blessed with a beautiful singing voice, always citing his Welsh roots. He loved and valued his family and his many friends who were truly his ‘Alaska family.’ He will be missed and his gentle spirit will be forever in our hearts.”
Surviving are his daughter, Josanne Jensen (Woodin); granddaughter and husband, Jana and Steven Leech (Jensen); great-granddaughters, Jenevieve Leech and Johanna Leech; and grandson and wife, Michael and Jennifer Jensen.
Memorial donations may be made to Matanuska Lodge No.7, P.O. Box 297, Palmer, AK, 99645.
