Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Stephen P. McDannel, 66, died April 19, 2012, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer.
He was born Jan. 14, 1945, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Roy and Leola (Osborne) McDannel.
A celebration of life service in honor of Stephen is at 4 p.m., May 5 at American Legion Post 35 in Wasilla.
Stephen served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps for 20 years. He moved to Alaska in 1990 and lived in Wasilla. He was a member of American Legion Post 35 and AMVETS Post 9 in Wasilla. His family and friends he made here in Alaska will miss him. Stephen’s service to his country is greatly appreciated by those who live here in the Mat-Su Valley and Alaska, as well as those whose lives he touched.
Surviving are his sister, Susann Cursons of Alberta, Canada; and his brother, Dan McDannel of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Preceding him in death was his brother, Garry.
Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel and Crematory Wasilla cared for the family.
