Stephen Thomas Farmer

Stephen Thomas Farmer, 58, of Wasilla, died Feb. 26, 2010, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 501 Bogard Road in Wasilla with a visitation and light reception immediately following with the family.

Steve was born Dec. 28, 1951, in Newport, R.I., to Orville Thomas Farmer II and Thelma Nordigian Farmer.

Steve traveled around the United States and numerous countries while serving in the Navy. He moved and worked throughout military sites in Alaska from 1981 to 2006, with retirement from civil service after 31 years; most recently with his retirement from Elmendorf Air Force Base, 611th Squadron, previously 5009th CEOS after receiving numerous superior achievement awards.

Steve enjoyed fishing, hunting and repairing vehicles especially restoring his beloved 1969 Firebird. He was known for his legendary mechanical gifts and amazing ability for temporary repairs that outlasted and surprised many. Most recently he also enjoyed retirement with woodworking and jewelry making for the family and close friends.

He is survived by his loving family to include, wife of 36 years, Barbara; children, Shawn (Sara), Nathan (Christine), Kimberly (John), Nicholas (Jessica); seven grandchildren to them he was known as Papa. Other surviving relatives include his mother, two brothers, sister, all in Washington, Oregon and Montana; and all of his extended family and dear friends.
