Steven James Simpson
Steven James Simpson passed away in Anchorage, Alaska, on July 8, 2022. He was born in Anchorage on March 3, 1955, and was the youngest son of Lewis E. and Charlotte M. (Mumford) Simpson. Steve attended Denali Elementary, Central Junior High, and West High School in Anchorage. After high school, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Steve married his wife, Jody, in Anchorage on September 11, 1981. They built a home on Rocky Lake in Big Lake in 1985, where they raised their two children. He enjoyed watching baseball, playing with his dogs, good cheeseburgers, poker, sitting on the deck watching the lake, and gathering with family and friends. Steve was the Senior Vice President of Operations at Dynamic Capital Management. He believed in giving back to his community, and at the time of his death was a member of the Big Lake Lions Club and the Big Lake Fire Service Area Board of Supervisors. Steve became an organ transplant recipient in 2014. He was able to pay back that debt by donating his corneas after he passed away.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 41 years, Jody; son, Mathew Simpson, of Big Lake; daughter, Catherine “Cassie” Simpson, of Anchorage; brother, Lewis E. “Sandy” Simpson, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; nine nieces and nephews and their families; multiple cousins; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Scott, and his sister, Stacy.
The family wishes to thank the Mat-Su Borough Emergency Services providers, Mat-Su Regional Medical Center’s cardiac team, Dr. David Leffler, and the Critical Care Unit at Alaska Regional Medical Center. Per his wishes, no service is planned.
