Palmer resident Steven “Steve” Paul Ziegler, 46, died in a construction accident on Thursday, July 22, 2010, in Wasilla.

Steve was born on April 22, 1964 in Anchorage. Steve worked for Rex Turner, Turner Construction, from 1984 to 2008 and Prosser Dagg Construction from 2009 until his death.

He enjoyed skiing, hiking and anything outdoors. He loved riding ATVs with his kids and spending time with his family.

“Steve loved skiing at Hatcher Pass and felt at peace in the mountains,” his family wrote. “He loved watching his daughters’ race and was very proud of them both.

He loved camping at ‘the pit’ and spent most summers camping and riding four-wheelers. Steve was a great artist and carpenter. He was a wonderful father, husband, brother, son and friend. He was the type of person who would drop anything to help someone in need. He was loved by everybody and will be missed by all.”

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Paul Ziegler. He will be remembered and survived by his wife, Lisa Ziegler; and his daughters, Sasha and Skye Ziegler; and his sons David Ziegler, Dusty Moody and Hollis (Serena) Honeycutt II; brothers, Ken Ziegler, Bob (Kim) Ziegler, Zac (Jessi) Forsyth and Chris Ziegler; mother, Joanne (Rick) Skonberg; stepmother, Cindy Ziegler; aunts, Joan (Bob) Weis, Violet Zitzow, Donna Ziegler, Raymond (Annie) Barrett, Cheryl (Jim) Bird; sister, Shannon Edens; father-in-law, Ed Turpin; mother-in-law, Marina Jones; brother in-law, Juan Rojas; sister in-law, Sandra Cantu; nephews, Jakob Ziegler and Jose Cantu; and nieces Marna “Katie” Ziegler and Isabelle McKay.

Viewing will be held 5 to 8 p.m, Monday, July 26 at the Valley Funeral Home, Palmer Chapel, 2020 N. Hemmer Road in Palmer. Funeral services will be held 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 27 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 440 East Elmwood Ave in Palmer. Steve’s ashes will be scattered over Hatcher Pass by his brother Bob this winter.
