Longtime Alaskan Steven Walter Cruikshank, 60, died at his Wasilla home Feb. 1, 2013.

A celebration of life with a potluck in honor of Steve will be held 1 to 5 p.m., Feb. 16 at St. David Episcopal Chruch, Mile 2.2 Wasilla-Fishhook Road in Wasilla.

Steven was born Feb. 28, 1952, in Portland, Ore., the son of Walter and Lorraine Cruikshank.

In 1960, Steve and his family traveled the Alcan Highway to Fairbanks, and a few years later they moved to Anchorage. His family owned and operated the Anchorage Glass Co. He attended West High School and snowmachined with the Midnight Sun Racing Team.

Steve embraced the Alaskan way of life, having a great time sharing activities such as target practice, hunting, flying, boating, fishing, camping, photography, cooking excellent food and scenic rides with his friends, family and children. He was an avid truck enthusiast, and he rebuilt vehicles with friends and family.

Steve had a great spirit to be good to people, as well as a great gift for conversation. His true Sunday afternoon was spent with good friends and family, sharing great food and watching a car race or a football game.

He will be greatly missed: he was a true man to his family and friends.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lorraine “Rainy” Cruikshank; his son, Robert Steven “Little Robert”; and granddaughter, Snowy Rose.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Ann of Wasilla; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Bob Doisher of Anchorage; daughter, Christina L. Cruikshank of Illinois; daughter, Sophie R. Cruikshank of Palmer; son, Christopher J. Cruikshank of Wasilla; son, Gunnar L. Cruikshank of Wasilla; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Linda Cruikshank of Oregon; and sister and brother in-law, Carolee and Al Livingston of Mississippi. He is also survived by one nephew, three nieces; eight grandchildren; and many family members in Fairbanks, Alaska and Wisconsin.

Arrangements were cared for by the Valley Funeral Home and Crematory.
