PALMER — Valley Summer Youth Band, a project of the Palmer Arts Council, kicks off a series of performances with a concert Friday at the Palmer Veterans and Pioneers Home and then at the Governor’s Picnic at 4 p.m., at Raven Hall on the Alaska State Fairgrounds.
Comprised of Valley middle and high school musicians, the band is being led this year by Charles Carte, music director at Teeland Middle School.
The band performs again at 11 a.m., Saturday, at Palmer’s Art and Garden Faire.
Later this month the band is set to perform at the Palmer Pride Picnic, July 25, Palmer Friday Fling, Palmer Visitor Center, Carrs/Safeway in Palmer, Palmer Post Office, Wasilla Lake, and Wasilla Library. Or people can catch the band in full concert at 7 p.m., July 18, at Teeland Middle School.
