OBIT Sue Teigen
OBIT Sue Teigen

Longtime Alaska resident Susan Anneleise Teigen, 56, died Dec. 6, 2012, at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage from respiratory failure and a long battle with diabetes.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m., Dec. 15, at North Kenai Chapel, Mile 29 Kenai Spur Hwy. Pastor Wayne Coggins will officiate.

Sue was born Oct. 8, 1956, in Pennsylvania. She earned her business administrative degree from Towson State University.

Sue enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1976 and served until her honorable discharge in 1980. She moved to Alaska in 1978 and was stationed at Fort Richardson. She moved to Willow in 1987 and lived there until moving to Nikiski in 2006.

Sue was a member of the North Kenai Chapel. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting and crocheting.

“Sue always had a loving, generous and caring heart. Her special gift of hospitality was evident to everybody she met, whether they were friend or stranger,” her husband wrote. “She often brought strangers off the street, and if they were in need, she would give all that she had to meet that need. Nobody was ever turned away from her door. Her heart for God was evident in her everyday life. She made many quilts, as well as hot pads and dish cloths as gifts for people.

“She also had a passion for raising greenhouse vegetables and flowers. Knowledge that Sue had about any of her gifts or talents was willingly shared with others. Though she will be greatly missed by all who knew her, we can rest assured in the truth that she is with our Savior and is no longer suffering! No more pain! No more sorrow! She is rejoicing with the Lord in all his glory and for all eternity.”

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Trudy Schirk.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, David S. Teigen of Nikiski; and brothers, Roland and Ronald Schirk and family of Pennsylvania.

Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai. Please visit Sue’s online guestbook at alaskanfuneral.com.
