There is an update to the suspected drunk-driving accident that claimed one life on March 27, 2024.
The Wasilla Police Department released a statement that Steven Brodigan, 29, of Wasilla was indicted on April 4 on multiple counts including Manslaughter, three counts of Assault in the Third Degree, and Driving While Intoxicated.
Brodigan was arrested and taken into custody by WPD and remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial.
On Thursday morning, the Wasilla Police Department (WPD) issued a press release, updating information about the three-car accident during the morning commute on March 27, 2024.
“At approximately 8 a.m. MATCOM dispatch received a 9-1-1 call (REDDI) regarding a dangerous driver in a black full-size pickup that was traveling north towards Wasilla on the Parks Highway from the Interchange. While Officers and Troopers were responding to the area attempting to intercept the vehicle, MATCOM received multiple subsequent 9-1-1 calls reporting a serious collision on the Parks Highway near the intersection of Alpine Street.”
WPD arrived on scene in less than one minute and found three vehicles involved. According to multiple witness statements and evidence collected on scene indicated the pickup traveling northbound, driven by Brodigan, had crossed through the continuous turn lane on the Parks Highway and hit an SUV traveling in the inside southbound lane head-on.
The SUV was driven by Norma Kincaid, age 63 of Wasilla. Both Brodigan and Kincaid were transported from the scene to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. Despite lifesaving efforts, Kincaid was pronounced deceased.
Brodigan was later transported to an Anchorage hospital for further care. The third vehicle involved, a sedan, was heavily damaged in the collision but the driver was released from the scene without significant injuries. Initial investigation indicates that alcohol was a factor in the collision. A criminal investigation followed.
“We offer our deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased, and everyone affected by this collision. Wasilla Police Department would also like to express our gratitude to the community members who assisted during the incident and our partners with MATCOM dispatch, Mat-Su Borough Fire & EMS, and the Alaska State Troopers."
