The feet on the track go round and round …

So I’m shooting hoops with trainer Bill at the AT&T Sports Center Friday afternoon and feeling pretty good. I’m moving, putting the basketball in the same time zone as the hoop and mischievously wondering …

… what would be the reaction if I had a pizza delivered to the gym during my workout?

OK, I would never do this and, in fact, I wasn’t craving pizza at the time. I have a very active mind and somewhat twisted sense of humor, and times like working out and driving are dangerous because I have a lot of time with my own thoughts.

Today’s training session was humbling and showed just how far out of shape I am. After about 10 minutes of shooting baskets and four laps around the track and I was gasping. For someone who spent the first half of his life on the playing field, court or mat, I had forgotten how good it feels to be in the gym or to shoot a basketball.

If you haven’t been to the new AT&T Sports Center, you’re missing out. Although there are still a few finishing touches being applied, it’s one impressive place. It not only has the amenities to appeal to a variety of interests, it’s well designed and mapped out. The basketball courts are beautiful and you can feel just the hint of give in them with the same type of floating floor system many NBA teams use.

It’s a short one today folks. I haven’t cheated. And here’s a tip I’m trying; when I leave late from work I take a different route home, one that doesn’t go by all the fast-food places. After a 12-hour day, tired and hungry, I figure it’s best not to put the temptation there in the first place.
