Theresa Barno

Copper Center resident Theresa Elaine Barno, 56, died Nov. 20, 2007, at her home at Willow Lake.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Dec. 4 until the time of the service at the church. The Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy will be held at noon at St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, 2200 Arctic Blvd. in Anchorage. The Rev. Michael Hornic will officiate. Burial will follow at Ft. Richardson National Cemetery.

Barno was born Oct. 7, 1951, in Pensacola, Fla. She moved to Alaska in 1972, living in Anchorage (1972-1983), Wasilla (1984-1997), and Copper Center (1998 until her death). She was employed by the Anchorage School District. Barno was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church in Anchorage and Holy Family Catholic Church in Glennallen. She was active in church fundraising events and her hobbies included fishing, hobby crafts, sewing and political action groups.

She raised three children with an emphasis for the glory of God and the service of mankind. In her dedicated efforts, she successfully home-schooled her children and labored for improvements in the public school system to benefit all. She endured her myriad of physical ailments and impairments cheerfully.

Barno is survived by her husband, Edward Barno of Copper Center; daughter, Hannah Lotton; grandsons, Isaac, Jacob and Elijah Lotton, all of Anchorage; daughter, Miriam Barno of Copper Center; son, Jason Barno of Tampa, Fla.; brother, Kenneth Haley of McGee, Mo.; sister, Loretta Vaughn of Birmingham, Ala.; brother Gary Walkley of Virginia Beach, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Barno was preceded in death by her father, Luke Haley and her mother, Betty Walkley.
