Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Thomas Paul Simpson, 67, passed away Sept. 17, 2014, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, Palmer.
Thomas was born on July 22, 1947, in Anchorage and lived all his life in Alaska. After graduating high school, he joined the Army National Guard, where he found his passion for cooking. Tom married his wife Mary Lee Francisco in 1982. He later worked as a cook for the school district. He loved to volunteere at the Food Bank of Alaska. Being a true Alaskan, Thomas loved fishing, hunting and gardening. Toward the end his life Thomas lived in Golden Agers Assisted Living Home in Wasilla.
Tom had a heart of gold and was especially known for helping people who were down and out to get back on their feet.
Surviving are his brothers and sisters, Hazel Holt Allen, Kenneth Simpson, Frank Simpson, Barry Simpson, Jean Krupa, Kathy Stevens, and John Simpson; children and stepsons, Adam Stremcha (born 1978), Cristopher Coy Simpson (born 1982); son, Shannon Simpson (born 1984); daughter-in-law, Mary O’Brien Simpson; and grandson, Kayden O’Brien Simpson (born 2008).
Preceding him in death were his parents, Earl and Helen Louise Simpson; and son, Lee Simpson (born and died 1986).
The funeral service is at 10 a.m., Sept. 20 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church and the Inurnment will follow after the service at Palmer Pioneer Cemetery.
