Tracy Brian Schmidt

Tracy Brian Schmidt, age 54, died tragically, Sunday, August 15th, 2021 in Willow, Alaska. Tracy was born June 10th, 1967 to Norm and Shirley Schmidt in Anchorage, Alaska. Tracy started his career as a heavy equipment operator working at Cambior as a boom truck driver. He was also part of the Cambior emergency services which eventually led to him joining the Mat-Su Dive Rescue Team. He started his 20+ year career with the State of Alaska beginning in the Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation. Tracy eventually moved to Department of Transportation where he enjoyed operating heavy equipment.

Tracy was known for being kind, sweet, and generous. No matter where Tracy went, you could count on him to bring candy, joke around, and show you videos of those he was proud of.

Tracy was an avid lover of animals and took in many cats that needed homes. His most recent “kids”, his four pigs, were loved dearly. Upon his death, the pigs were placed with Alaska Potbelly Pig Rescue. His cats can be adopted from Clear Creek Cat Rescue or the Mat-Su Animal Shelter. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to any number of local cat rescues and encourage others to spay and neuter their animals.

He is preceded in death by his father, Norm Schmidt, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Tracy is survived by his mother, Shirley A. Schmidt; daughter and son-in-law, McKenzie and Alex Fetta; son and future daughter-in-law, Gregory Schmidt and Vanessa Muhlenbruch; daughter, Elizabeth Clark; granddaughter, Natalie Fetta; and multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Tracy’s ashes will be scattered in Cloudy Lake by his children.
