Having lost his long, valiant battle with cancer recently, Upe Letuligasenoa, our friend and brother in Christ, went home to his Father in Heaven on Jan. 19, 2016. He was lifted up in love and prayers by friends and relatives during his last week of life in Mat-Su Regional Hospital.
Though born at Camp Pendleton, California, on March 11, 1963, Upe’s Samoan family culture of love of family and life was the sweet essence of his being. His career as a heavy equipment operator aided our community for years, keeping the roads we travel maintained and safe.
His pleasures in life were his family, friends, fishing, cards and his joy in his relationship with Christ. We all understood his enormous love and respect for his wife, Mary, and his mother, Lupelele Letuligasenoa, and the nephew, Ronnie Blas, whom he proudly called his son. Ronnie and his precious wife gave the treasure of three grandchildren whom he adored.
Upe is also survived by his 13 siblings and their beloved families, Toni Letuligasenoa, Sue Molifua, Joe Letuli, Barbara A’asa, Rainima Faumuina, Saga Sapini, Setu Letuligasenoa, Mel Fuimaono, Fale Tupuola, Nefu Pauu, Muaau Leasau, Tafu Letuli, Letua Letuligasenoa.
Upe was preceded in death by his father, Saleutogi Letuligasenoa.
Many family members living in California and Samoa will have memorials to celebrate Upe’s life near to them. Those of us who were privileged to share time and relationships with Upe will forever know his impact to be a light in our lives as an example of Christian love and the power of a genuine smile.
A Celebration of Life and potluck meal for those of us who knew and loved Upe will be at American Legion Post 35 in Wasilla, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016.
No flowers please.
