Valerie Ann Combs-Saunders, 57, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at her home in Palmer, Alaska.
Valerie was born October 20, 1959, in Palmer, the youngest of five children of Earl and Mary Combs. After four boys Mary was finally blessed with her daughter. She obtained her general education diploma in 1976 and then began working for her family’s insurance agency. After a long fulfilling career in the insurance field she selflessly began her new life dedication and was her mother’s primary care provider.
Valerie truly enjoyed life to the fullest through simple pleasures: attending Mat-Su Miners games, watching Mariners games with her mother, fishing, snowmachining, and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling and could not wait for her cherished annual girl’s trips taken with her mother, daughter and niece. So many amazing memories made and stories shared.
She will fondly be remembered as a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.
Preceding her in death were her parents Earl and Mary Combs, her son Jon, sisters-in-law Miriam Combs and Barbara Sexton.
Surviving are her daughter, Tonya Naff, son in law, Tommy Naff and son Justin
Saunders; her siblings and spouses William Combs, John (Linda) Combs, Michael
(Cheryl) Combs, Ron Combs; and her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The services will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 425 E. Fireweed, Palmer, on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. A short gathering after the services with refreshments will also be held at the church immediately following the celebration of her life. Burial follows at Valley Memorial Park, Mile 12.8 Old Glenn Highway, Palmer, Alaska, at approximately 2 p.m.
