A snow storm on the Kenai Peninsula led to the cancelation of the final day of the Soldotna Invitational track and field meet, but a trio of Valley athletes managed to strike gold before the track was covered in white.
The Mat-Su swept the 3,200-meter races. Colony’s Trygve Vang-Thompson enjoyed a personal best in the boys 3,200, winning with a time of 10 minutes, 1.51 seconds.
Wasilla’s Hailee Giacobbe won the girls 3,200 with her best time of her junior season, a mark of 11:44.74.
Colony’s Grant Ousley used a personal-best throw of 49 feet,c 11.25 inches to win the boys shot put. His teammate, Sam Thaler, was also third.
Annelise Larsen and Mattelyn Elliott led the Colony girls with runner-up finishes. Larsen was second in the long jump and Elliott was second in the discus.
Colony’s Maverick Rodriguez was third in the boys high jump.
Wasilla’s Richard Rogers was third in the boys long jump, and Justin Dalitsh placed third in the 3,200. Claire Bredberg was third in the discus for the Wasilla girls.
Palmer sent a group of athletes to the Anchorage Invitational at Dimond High School. Moose senior Corbin Gerkin had a big win in the boys high jump, with a mark of 5-foot-10. Nolan Garner was second in the discus.
