Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Vera Kelly-Krautter Shugak, 83, passed away May 18, 2014, with her oldest son, Don, at her side.
She left behind her children, Don Shugak, Toby Shugak, Mildred Aposik, Connie VanWingerden, Katherine Chuckwuk, Ruth Alm, Senafont Jr. Shugak, Rebecca Jensen, Rachel Shugak and the family of her youngest deceased son, Mark Shugak; and a plethora of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Vera lived a full life with her deceased husband, Senafont Shugak, living their young lives in Old Harbor where Vera filled many positions including store keeper, postmaster, substitute teacher, village nurse, ran a movie night, editor of the village newspaper, cannery cook, cannery worker, and also commercial fished with her husband. Vera’s favorite pastimes were sewing, crocheting and knitting. A big part of her life was loving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ “a very present help in time of need.”
Services are at 1 p.m., May 22 at the Wasilla Bible Church, 1651 W. Nicola Ave., Wasilla. A viewing for friends and family begins at noon. Burial will follow at the Wasilla Aurora Cemetery.
