Verna Halstead

Verna (Stewart) Halstead, 68, died June 22 with her husband at her side at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. She was born in Hollywood, Calif., on June 30, 1940 the daughter of Maynard and Alma (McKnight) Stewart. Verna graduated from Hollywood High School before going on to be educated as a dental lab technician. She and her husband moved to Alaska seven years ago and made their home in Talkeetna. Verna was a devoted wife and she preferred to spend her time with her husband. She also enjoyed the companionship of her two dogs, Ivy and Rosie. In her spare time, Verna fished and panned and mined for gold.

Verna is survived by her husband of 14 years, George Halstead; twin sister, Valerie Bartlett; niece, Lyn Bartlett; nephew, David Bartlett; brother-in-law, Jim Halstead and his wife Gloria; dear friends, Susan Walker and Jane Carr.

She was predeceased by her parents and sister, Diane.

In accordance with Verna’s wishes, there will not be a formal service. Arrangements are under the care of Valley Funeral Home.
