Vicki Guylyne (Boss) Erps 74, passed away on October 9, 2023, at her home in Willcox, AZ with family by her side.
On October 7, 1949, Guy and Margaret White, of Stinnett, Texas, were expecting a baby boy already named Ricky Guy White. Instead, a healthy girl was born. Thank goodness for simpler times; all that was needed was a name change; Vicki Guylyne White.
The family remained in Texas until 1964, then, due to the economy and no jobs, Alaska seemed the place for opportunity. The move was successful.
Vicki married Larry Hoekzema in 1967. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Hoekzema; son, Daniel Hoekzema; sister, Cheryl Pope; granddaughter, Cherell High and great grandson, Carson High.
Vicki retired from Mat Su Borough School District as the first day female custodian, a well-fought battle. In 1998 she married the love of her life, Michael Erps. They retired and bought a fifth wheel and traveled the US. In 2013 travelling became difficult and they parked at her sister’s home in Willcox, Arizona. Lisa came down to help when Vicki had a heart attack. We lost Mike from cancer on Christmas of 2021 and Vicki was diagnosed with a type of blood cancer in 2023. We love and miss them both. Lisa and Cheryl still man the geriatric nursing home in Willcox with Cheryl as the only patient. Both Vicki and Mike wished to be cremated and taken back to Alaska to the mountains. Lisa will take them on her trip home.
