Virginia Louise Hubner, 79, died Oct. 15, 2007, at home in Houston from complications of emphysema.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Oct. 19 at the First Baptist Church, 900 Leatherleaf Loop and Bogard Road in Wasilla.
Born April 8, 1928, in Scranton, Pa., Hubner came to Alaska in November 1958, living in Big Lake and Houston. She worked in clothing and jewelry sales and was affiliated with the Baptist church.
Hubner was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. When she passed, she was attended by her daughter, Wendy, sons, James and Scott, and her home care assistant, Sage. A pioneer resident of Alaska since 1958, Hubner raised a family of six children and enjoyed a retail career in ladies’ clothing and jewelry.
Hubner is survived by daughters, Wendy Laux of Houston and Heidi Cosmey of Polk City, Fla.; sons, James, Scott and Cort Hubner of Wasilla and Lance Hubner of Seattle; sisters, Barbara Direnzo of Cleveland, Ohio, Geraldine Bettis of Colorado and Shirley Gillen; 10 grandchildren; and 14-great grandchildren.
Valley Funeral Homes and Crematory of Wasilla and Palmer assisted the family.
