Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Vito Vincent Papasodora Sr., 82, died on June 5, 2011, in the comfort of his home after a long illness. Vito was born the youngest son of 14 children to Frank and Maria Papasodora on June 14, 1928, in Rumford, Maine. Vito served his country for 22 years in the U.S. Air Force from 1945-67, completing tours of duty in World War II, in Korea, Japan and Germany.
On June 30, 1983, Vito retired from the Civil Service with a total of 31 years and eight months of service. Surviving are his beloved wife Joyce of nearly 61 years; children, Roxanna L. Powell, Lynne M. Atkin, Vito V. Papasodora Jr., Cheryl A. Chapman, Stephen M. Papasodora, Geoffrey P. Papasodora and John J. Papasodora; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
“Vito will always be loved, cherished and adored by his family. He will be greatly missed and remembered always,” his family said.
Surviving are his brother Paul Onofrio of Falmouth, Mass.; sister, Jenny Virgin of Dixfield, Maine; and brother, Ralph Papasodora of Rumford, Maine.
The family extends special thanks to the entire staff of Matanuska-Susitna Regional Hospital, Hospice of Wasilla, and the EMT’s for their compassionate and dedicated care during his illness. In accordance with the family’s wishes, there will be no services. Cremation was handled by Alaskan Heritage. Condolences may be sent to P.O. Box 872895, Wasilla, AK 99687.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the American Heart and Lung Association.
