Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Vivian Isabel Browner, 89, died Jan. 10, 2013, at Primrose Retirement Home with her husband of 66 years by her side.
A private graveside service is Jan. 14 at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
A memorial service is at 1 p.m., Jan. 19 at Wasilla Seventh-day Adventist Church, with a potluck reception to follow.
Vivian was born Feb. 24, 1923, in Mendocino County, Calif., to Isabel and Levi Howard.
Vivian married Cecil (Rick) M. Browner Jr. on Aug. 23, 1946.
She arrived at Elmendorf Air Force Base with her family in December 1959. After her husband’s retirement in 1965 in Michigan, they returned to Alaska. She has been a resident of Wasilla since 1975.
Vivian was a member of Wasilla Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was an avid bowler in the Tuesday Blues League and the Thursday League, and also loved painting, quilting, gardening and cooking.
Always known as a strong “I’ll do it myself” woman, she lived life with love, integrity and tenacity.
Surviving are her husband, Cecil (Rick) Browner Jr.; daughter, Suzanne Browner of Anchorage, daughter and son-in-law Pamela and Jim Holen of Astoria, Ore., and son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Karin Beumer-Browner of Santa Cruz, Calif.; grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Davin and Cara O’Brien-Holen of Anchorage, Christopher and Jennifer Holen of Astoria, Ore., and granddaughter and grandson-in-law Andrea and Ian Williams of Anchorage; great-grandchildren, Ruari O’Brien-Holen, Anaise Holen, and Konner and Ashlynn Williams; and sisters, Jean Poole and Annette Thatcher.
Preceding her in death were her mother and father, Isabel and Levi Howard; sisters, Beth, Leona and Winifred; and brothers, James and Harold.
Instead of flowers, her family requests donations be sent in her name to World Wildlife Fund.
Arrangements were entrusted to Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel and Crematory of Wasilla.
