Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

That sigh of relief you heard was brought on by my Denver Broncos (yes, I’m Broncomaniac) squeaking out a victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 16-13.
What, you may ask, does this have to do with Gov. Sarah Palin?
Well, while visiting Denver prior to the game, Palin proclaimed the Broncos were going to mangle the Bucs. Being a little superstitious about such proclomations, I admit to being a little concerned she may have jinxed the Ponies.
Not so. Although it wasn’t decisive, Denver won and Palin remains in the good graces of Broncos fans.
Flipping through Palin’s 1982 senior Wasilla High School yearbook, the then Sarah Heath seemed to sprout her political asperations. On student council, she was also the student body treasurer. A future as her city’s mayor, Alaska goverenor and possible vice president of the united states may have been a little far afield for her back then.
Page 204 lists her many school activities (including concert band, pep band, basketball, cross country, FCA, Honor Society, pep club, prom committee, track and varsity club) and her ambition: “To sit up in the press box with Howard Cossell on Monday nights broadcasting Eric’s, Dave’s, Todd’s and J.D.’s games.”
A sports junkie myself who began his journalism career as a sports reporter and editor, I can certainly identify with this ambition. Now that Cossell is no longer with us, I guess VP is OK as a distance second choice.
