Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Walter Kenneth Blum Jr., 44, died Nov. 29 at Providence Alaska Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
A visitation will be held Monday from 5-6:30 p.m., at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Palmer followed by a Funeral Mass at 7 p.m., with Father Tom Brundage officiating.
Walter was born Nov. 24, 1964 in Angeles City, Philippines. He moved to Alaska in 1968 and resided in Anchorage from 1968-1993 and then Palmer from 1994-2008. He graduated from Service High School and attended the aviation program at the University of Alaska Anchorage and also served in the United States Army.
He was also employed by Chimo Guns, Great Guns, Gun Runners, Turpin Guns, Professional Infusion Pharmacy and Sears.
Walter enjoyed gunsmithing, collecting historic firearms and was an avid history buff.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Michaels Catholic Church.
His family states, “Walt was a loving husband and father. He was very proud of his son, Brandon. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, always entertaining us with a story and trivial facts. We will miss him dearly and he will always be in our hearts.”
Walter is survived by his wife Sandra Blum and son Brandon Blum of Palmer; mother Consorcia Blum of the Philippines; father - and mother-in-law, Alfred and Barbara Nault of Palmer; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Darren and Debbie Nault of Anchorage, Shawn and Tanya Nault of Anchorage; sister-in-law, Bobbie Jo Nault of Palmer. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter K. Blum Sr.
