Wasilla High School senior Gabriel Carey led Valley athletes with a pair of individual wins during the Wasilla Invitational track and field meet April 25 at Wasilla High School.
Carey used a pair of personal bests to win gold in the boys 800-meter and 1,600-meter races. He clocked a time of 2 minutes, 3.87 seconds in the 800 and 4:43.09 in the 1,600.
Wasilla was fourth overall in the boys team standings. Barak Wagle also won the high jump with a mark of 5-foot-8. Bruce Summerville (high jump) and Calvin Musgrave (triple jump) each finished second.
Colony swept the team titles for the second straight week. The Colony boys finished with 160 total points. The girls had 125. The Knights also won both classes at the Homer Invitational the week before.
Colony notched a pair of boys relay wins, placing first in the 400 and 1,600. Travis Saari used a personal best time of 51.39 to win the 400 meters. Haakan Erickson was first in the 300 hurdles with a personal best of 42.67. Kadarious Pope (200), Theodore Stamoolis (800), Benjamin Aliberti (3,200), London Ramirez (110 hurdles), Grant Ousley (shot put) and Hans Erickson (triple jump) were third.
Aubrey Virgin led the Colony girls with a victory in the 3,200. Virgin clocked a personal best time of 11:41.11. Annelise Larsen was second in the 200 and triple jump. Mattelyn Elliott was also second in the discus. Josephine Kelley (100), Clara Sensabaugh (1,600) and Jesarela Dacosta (100 hurdles) were third.
Nolan Garner led the Palmer boys with a win in the discus, and personal best throw of 143-2. Sawyer Wilhelm (100) and Evan Denconour (high jump) were third.
Mia Bukala won the girls triple jump with a mark of 34-10.25 to lead Redington.
Jessie Wentford hit 5-2.245 to win the girls high jump for Susitna Valley. Maura McDaniel was also third in the high jump for the Rams.
Jewel Gardner earned a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100 and 300 hurdles for the Wasilla girls. Hailee Giacobbe was also second in the 3,200. Claire Bredberg (shot put) and Mia Christensen (discus) were both third.
Leia Petersen placed third in the 200 and 400 to lead the Palmer girls.
