WASILLA — Wasilla Domino’s and the National Fire Protection Association are working with the West Lakes Fire Department to promote fire safety during Fire Prevention Week, which runs from Oct. 9 to Oct. 15.

According to a recent press release, locals who order from Domino’s may be randomly selected to receive a surprise when their pizza arrives accompanied by a fire engine Wednesday, Oct. 12 between 4 to 7 p.m.

If the customer’s home smoke alarms are working, their order is free. If not, firefighters will replace them or install new batteries.

“Fire safety is extremely important,” Wasilla Domino’s franchise owner Bryan Dobb stated in the press release. “We’re very excited to partner with NFPA and the fire department for a program that not only promotes the safety of our friends and neighbors but rewards those who make fire safety a priority.”

“Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape” is this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme.

“In a typical home fire, you may have as little as one to two minutes to escape safely from the time the smoke alarm sounds,” West Lakes Fire Department chief Tawnya Hightower stated in the press release. “Escape planning and practice can help you make the most of the time you have, giving everyone enough time to get out. These steps can make all of the difference and we hope to raise awareness about them through our partnership with Domino’s.”

NFPA is a global, nonprofit organization that was founded in 1896 and works to eliminate death, injury, property, and economic loss due to fire, electrical and related hazards.

According to the press release, NFPA delivers information and knowledge through more than 300 consensus codes and standards, research, training, education, outreach, and advocacy; and by partnering with others who share their vision.

NFPA has been the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week since 1922. This is the longest-running public health and safety observance on record. Each acting U.S. President has signed a proclamation proclaiming a national observance during that week every year since 1925.
