Palmer resident Wendy F. Thompson, 39, died Sept. 10, 2012, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage after battling stage IV glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer.

Minister Brad Norris will officiate at a service for Wendy promptly at 2 p.m., Sept.17 at the First Baptist Church, 1150 East Helen Drive, Palmer. A reception will follow. All family and friends of Wendy and Michael are welcome to attend.

Wendy was born March 17, 1973, in the old Community Hospital in Anchorage to Daniel and Robin Fassett. She was an only child. She attended Birchwood Elementary School until her parents moved to Palmer, then attended Palmer Jr. Middle School and graduated from Palmer High School.

On Jan. 25, 1997, Wendy married her high school sweetheart, Michael Thompson. She worked alongside her husband for the last 15 years, helping with their business, WM Construction.

Wendy and Michael have three children; Cole, 14; Mikayla, 12; and Riley, 7. Wendy was an active volunteer for Pioneer Peak Elementary School, including working on various projects, the school’s yearbook, volunteering as classroom mom and baking for school events. Wendy loved scrapbooking, spending time with her children at home and with their various sports, camping, snowmachining and boating. She was a member of Palmer Christian Church.

Her family said, “She was most happy with a house full of children and/or adults. She loved chaos, the more the merrier. Noise that bothered most didn’t affect her. She fed off the energy of other people. That was when she was the happiest.”

Her family described her as a loving mother, wife, daughter and great friend. The family wrote, “Three words that sum up her life: happy, giving and loving.”

Surviving are her husband, Michael; their three children, Cole, Mikayla and Riley; mother, Robin Fassett; father, Daniel Fassett; grandmother, Ruth Heisler; aunt, Susan Berry; and uncle, Bill Heisler. In addition, when Wendy married Michael she became a part of the Brown and Thompson families, which include Grandma Betty Brown; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her grandfather, Neal Brown; father-in-law, Jack Turner; grandfather, William Heisler; grandmother, Elizabeth Fassett; grandfather, Woody Fassett; and cousin, Susan Sanders.

Wendy was deeply saddened when she lost her friend of many years, Laura Mitchell McDonald, also due to cancer in 2007.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in the honor of Wendy Thompson to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center at fhcrc.org/en/how-to-help.html.

“What Cancer Cannot Do: Cancer is limited. It cannot cripple love. It cannot shatter hope. It cannot erode faith. It cannot destroy peace. It cannot kill friendship. It cannot silence courage. It cannot invade a soul. It cannot steal eternal life. It cannot conquer the spirit.” — Anonymous
