Ask most longtime residents and they will tell you, jokingly of course, that summers are lovely here but last only a few weeks in June before giving way to some seriously soggy days in July.

This has been true for much of the past month, in which Wasilla has received 3.99 inches of precipitation as of July 29, 2024, according to weatherspark.com, which also has Palmer coming in at receiving 2.2 inches of rainfall, though there were more days that received any measurable rainfall. Our neighbors to the north, Talkeetna, has received a whopping 5.56 inches, according to the same website.

Anchorage has received 3.80 inches of rain, making this the third year in a row in which Anchorage ends the month inside the top-10 wettest.

A wet day is one with at least 0.04 inches of liquid or liquid-equivalent precipitation.

This trend of wetter conditions has also meant cooler temperatures around the Mat-Su, with highs for many staying in the mid 50’s to low 60’s, and a strong possibility for drier weather by the middle of the weeks before, you guessed it, some cloudy conditions and chance of rain later in the week.

There is a flood advisory for the Yentna River near Lake Creek until this afternoon. Minor flooding has occurred in this year, with water levels expected to recede through the day.

There are currently no other flood advisories or watches for the Mat-Su Borough.
