Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident, William “Bill” Floyd, 50, died July 30, 2010, at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage surrounded by loved ones.
Bill was born Sept. 26, 1959, in Carpentaria, Calif., to David and Karen (Shannon) Floyd. Bill grew up in California until 1977, when he came to Alaska to live with his dad and step-mom, Gail.
He started his working career at Enstar Natural Gas and Ditch Witch. Bill lived in California and Texas for several years, ending up back in Alaska. He made Palmer his permanent residence and volunteered as a firefighter for the Butte Fire Department.
Bill was skilled as a heavy equipment operator and at the time of his passing was a foreman pipefitter with CH2MHILL.
Bill loved his family and friends, and was known for his caring heart and loving nature. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends whenever he had a chance. He loved to work hard and play just as hard. Bill will be missed by all.
Bill is survived by his girlfriend, Ann Staples; brothers, Don Risdon, Jeff Floyd and John Risdon; step-brothers, Philip Timbrook and Jeff (Kristy) Nelson; step-mother, Gail Floyd; nieces and nephews, Brian Risdon, Christena Floyd, Jordon and Hannah Nelson; and many beloved friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, David Floyd; mother, Karen Shannon; and infant brother, Timothy Floyd.
A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Aug. 7 at his home in Palmer, Mile 6.9 Old Glenn Highway. This will be a potluck, so please bring your favorite dish and memories to share.
Arrangements were with Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Palmer.
