Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Longtime Wasilla resident William “Bill” Heritage, 84, passed away Sept. 4, 2014, at home surrounded by family.
A celebration of life was at 2 p.m., Sept. 9 at Valley Funeral Home, 151 East Herning Ave. Wasilla. Chaplain Paul Krauszer officiated at the service. Burial followed at the Palmer Pioneer Cemetery on Arctic Street in Palmer.
Bill was born to William and Ruth Heritage on July 8, 1930, in Seattle, Washington. Bill served his country in the U.S. Army. He moved to the beautiful state of Alaska in 1972. He lived in Juneau, Haines and Wasilla where he resided at the time of his death. He worked many roads, bridges and vertical construction projects over the years. Bill retired from the Carpenters Union. His greatest interests in life were woodworking and he took joy in seeing his craftsmanship being enjoyed by others.
“Bill always tried to see the best side of anyone he met. He was a very friendly, kind, and caring person.”
He was survived by his partner and companion Lucy Pitts, other family members include: Dick and (Elaine), Maudie and (Jim), Mike, Vern, Ron and (Cookie), Rick and (Vickie), Lynn and (Don), Dennis and (Jenny), numerous grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Bill and Ruth Heritage; wife, Arline of 43 years; and a daughter, Linda.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bill’s name to the SPCA.
