Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

William “Bill” Mrak, Jr. (56) passed away peacefully July 19, 2016 at home in Palmer, AK surrounded by his loving family after a short illness with cancer. He was born to Eleanor and William Mrak, Sr. in Anchorage, AK. Bill grew up in the Sutton and Palmer area.
He graduated in 1978 from Palmer High School and attended the University of Alaska -Fairbanks obtaining his Bachelor of Science Degree.
Bill and Cheri were married on March 24, 1990 sharing almost 30 joyous years together. Their love for each other has seen them through many happy times; they were soul mates from the start always thinking of the other first and foremost in everything they did. They cherished their 2 children William Michael Mrak (Deceased) and Amber Marie Mrak, whom were their greatest accomplishments and joys in life.
Bill worked beside his father for many years on their gold mine claim in Hatcher Pass, these were some of his fondest memories. He worked for Matanuska Susitna School District for 24 years with many spent in the building maintenance department. He took great pride and ownership in his work. Everyone who had the privilege to work with him always held him with the upmost respect and admiration.
Once a friend you were friends for life, many from his youth are still his closest and dearest friends today. His fondest times were those snow machining, camping / ATV trips, his treasured Miami Dolphin NFL Team and time spent with family and friends.
Services to be held July 27, 2016 at 1:00 pm at St. Michael’s Catholic Church at 432 E. Fireweed Palmer, Alaska with a reception immediately following
Bill is preceded in death by his son William Michael Mrak, His Parents Eleanor and William Mrak, Sr., Nephew Ronald “Ronnie” Aklestad Jr. He is survived by his Wife Cheri and Daughter Amber, Sisters and brothers in-law Judith (Ronald) Aklestad, Karen (John) Stuart, Kim (Mark) Crowl. His extended in-laws Debbie (Donald) Magee, Allen (Mary) Sexton, Michael (Cathy) Sexton, Clifford (Doris) Sexton, Mark Sexton, Aaron Combs and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
