William Karl (Bill) Bohman

WILLIAM KARL (BILL) BOHMAN, 76, a resident of Wasilla, Alaska, died in his home on October 2, 2022.

Bill was the oldest of five children born to K Daryl and Betty Jane (Day) Bohman on March 19, 1946, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and moved to Palmer in December of 1961. Bill attended, played basketball, and graduated from Palmer High School. He later attended Ricks College and multiple flight schools for various certifications including High Altitude Helicopter Operations.

His military service began at Fort Rucker, Alabama in 1971 where he served in the Army USAR AVN as a Chief Warrant Officer in Company B 2027 AVN BN, First Calvary Division. He was an Aircraft Commander for a UH1H Huey and in Viet Nam participated in many excursions and rescued many soldiers. He was the recipient of the following medals, awards and recognitions for his service in Vietnam: Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Aviator Badge, and for heroism, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Air Medal.

After Bill’s military service, he was a Certified Flight Instructor in both Fixed and Rotary aircraft as well as an Instrument Instructor, a commercial pilot, had an air transport rating for which he owned and operated out of Big Red’s Flying Service in Anchorage, Alaska. He later served as the pilot for the Fish and Wildlife in Tok, Alaska for ten years, and then worked as a safety and flight inspector for the FAA out of Wasilla, Alaska before retiring in 2020.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church positions including a seminary teacher and as the Branch President in Tok, Alaska for ten years.

Bill was a dedicated and involved husband, father and grandfather. He loved being in an airplane exploring Alaska, reading Louis L’Amour and working in his shop.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, K Daryl Bohman, his mother, Betty Jane (Day), a younger, unnamed sister who died shortly after she was born and his youngest brother, Brian.

Bill is survived by his wife, Cam (McCarrey) Bohman of Wasilla, AK; Children: Robin (Bill) Hicks of Gilbert, AZ; Travis (Kelly) Bohman of Hamlet, NC; Tammy (Matt) Hogge, Anchorage, AK; Nathan Bohman, Glendale, CA; Kristopher (Katya) of San Antonio, TX; and Zariya Whidbee-Bohman, Wasilla, AK. Siblings: Richard (Trina) Bohman of Palmer, AK; and Barbara (Bill) Spafford of St. George, UT and many grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 14, 2022 at 3:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 13111 Brayton Drive, Anchorage, AK. A visitation and room of remembrance for the family will begin at 1:30 PM in the Relief Society Room. He will be buried at the Fort Richardson National Cemetery with military honors.
